Beaver Property Fundraiser

We did it! Thank you, beaver believers: the property is ours!

Stay tuned for more updates coming soon on this page.

We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand our mission by purchasing a property less than a mile from our nonprofit sanctuary — currently used as an Airbnb. We envision transforming it into an eco-retreat, where visitors can stay overnight, explore our conservation work, tour Something Wild and know their stay directly supports wildlife rescue and research. This property will also be a hub for volunteers, interns and researchers. This property is just over an hour’s drive from New Orleans, Louisiana.

Why This Property Matters

  • The Perfect Location — Close to our Beaver Sanctuary and the Mississippi Gulf Coast
  • Ready for Guests — Fully equipped lodging already functioning as a short-term rental
  • Revenue for Wildlife — Nightly stays will generate sustainable funding for our nonprofit’s work
  • An Immersive Experience — Guests can join guided walks, meet rescued wildlife (when permitted), and participate in ecotour activities
  • By owning this property, we can merge conservation, community, and ecotourism — creating a revenue stream that keeps our wildlife rescue work going for years to come.
  • Every contribution, big or small, makes a real impact. Even just a few dollars can help move this mission forward!

The Story So Far

We have been receiving donations via checks, PayPal, our website and the GoFundMe since the property went up for sale in August. Several extremely generous donors have allowed us to do (very successful!) match campaigns that continue to push us towards our goal. The seller was gracious enough to extend our purchase contract in October to allow us more time for the crowdfunding to do its work.

The GoFundMe has been an amazing way for people to support us easily. In November, we received some very large donations that pushed us over our goal: a total of $403,000! These donations were made via a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) called Daffy, handled through another DAF called Chariot.

After submitting our paperwork and being approved as a charity in good standing with the state of Mississippi, we were able to start the process of receiving these funds. On November 19 we closed the GoFundMe while finalizing documentation with the state and with Chariot.

On December 1, we received unfortunate news from Daffy: the donations turned out to be fraudulent, made with stolen bank details. There have been fraud attempts made on our PayPal account as well, which we are trying to resolve. But this community of beaver believers has rallied behind us, and we are pushing on to try to raise the full amount by the new year.

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated, purchased our new merch, and spread the word of our fundraiser! You can check out our latest video of the property here, where we explain our plans should we be lucky enough to be able to buy the property.
