We have recently started a Something Wild Newsletter to share all the latest news from our beaver family, both rescue and wild! We’ve been busy beavers for the last two months but we’re still trying to get to everything. It seems like there is always a new dam that needs to be build. Starting this month we aiming to do monthly blog updates on the latest developments, fundraisers, and stories from Tulip and the other beavers.
Our New Property: The Beaver Lodge
We’re excited to share a huge piece of news with you — Something Wild has officially acquired a new 18-acre property, now permanently protected as a wildlife sanctuary.
This land includes two ponds and more than 10 acres of water and wetland habitat, providing a safe space for wild beavers and other native wildlife, and opening the door for long-term beaver research and coexistence education. It will also serve as a public-facing home for Something Wild — a place where people can learn, connect, and experience the healing power of nature through future guided programs and a small, conservation-based nature retreat.
This milestone happened because of you. Your support helped turn a vision into protected land — something real, lasting, and deeply meaningful for wildlife and people alike.
Cleanup and planning are ongoing at the Beaver Lodge. We’ve seen more wild beavers and other critters on the night cams; you can watch some of their antics on YouTube. The timber company who previously owned the property behind ours has sold the land to a developer. Holley and the other residents on the street are working with a lawyer to ensure that the construction will affect the animals at the Lodge as little as possible.
To this end, we are looking into purchasing one or two lots in order to create a ‘buffer zone’ between our property and the new housing. We are waiting to see what we will be able to work out with the developers, after which we will most likely start fundraising. We will of course keep you up to date on any news we receive.
🎉Blossom and Sprout are turning 1🎉
To start off this month, please wish a very happy birthday to Blossom and Sprout, who are both now approximately 1 year old. These two little beavers have become members of Something Wild in the best way possible: by learning to be their best beaver selves. We’ve seen them grow, discover their favorite foods, enjoy grooming time with Tulip and Stormy, and even start a hose-stealing hobby. Sprout and Blossom will be with us for another year as they continue to mature and become more independent before we start to prepare them for a soft release..
First Rescue Beavers of 2026
While we’re celebrating our young beavers, we can’t leave out the two sisters who were brought in recently. Tulip has reviewed the YouTube and Patreon members’ suggestions, and has decided (with Holley’s help and some sweet potatoes) on names for these girls: Windy and Willow!
Windy and Willow are much more active at night, and are still settling into their enclosure. They’re eating well and causing mischief with their house and the night-time camera. Tulip, Blossom and Sprout have all said hello quite politely. We hope to introduce these girls to Stormy Rose soon as well. We’re working on profiles for them on the Meet the Beavers page.
YouTube Membership Now Available
Our YouTube channel, Holley Muraco at Something Wild, now has membership options! There are 2 tiers to choose between when signing up, but both will get you access to our custom hand-drawn emojis, done by Jude Swanepoel, and Tulip-themed loyalty badges. We will be starting to make members-only content soon, and we will keep you posted on those specifics. These memberships will also be an important part of any future fundraising campaigns.
A big thank you to everyone who has become a YouTube member since we launched memberships! Your support means the world to us, and we’ve got some more emojis and exclusive content coming your way. We’re working on emojis for Windy and Willow.
Hopping into Spring
Something Wild was invited to attend the world premier of Hoppers in Los Angeles on February 23rd. You can find the vlog of that experience here. Tulip was unfortunately not able to make an appearance on the red carpet, but she’s graciously forgiven that oversight. Stay tuned for the release of the film on March 6th; it’s been made with genuine care and a lot of research to accurately represent our beaver friends.
A BIG Thank You to All Beaver Believers!
Another big thank you to everyone who watches our videos, reads our posts, and interacts in any way. You encourage us to continue raising awareness about beavers’ importance and helping our native wildlife thrive. We appreciate every single beaver believer!
We hope you’ve enjoyed this update from the last month! It’s been a rollercoaster of events, new family and continuing our work, and we’ve loved sharing it with you. Stay tuned for our next update, and follow along with our daily activities on YouTube
